Chrysler Software Vulnerable To Hacking

Some 2013-2015 Chrysler vehicles equipped with RA3 or RA4 model radios may have certain software vulnerabilities which could allow third party access to some vehicle control systems. If the system is exploited, an unauthorized remote modification could expose the driver, occupants, and other individuals within the proximity to a potential risk of injury. Although FCA US has determined that the defect is not a safety problem, it has decided to conduct a remedial campaign in the interest of protecting its customers.

The vehicles affected include:

Chrysler will notify and mail owners of affected vehicles a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability. Owners may also download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update.
