The 5% Solution - Donating to Cancer Research
America’s law firms need to follow the lead of Delsack & Associates, a California consumer law firm, which donates part of its fees to cancer research.
Kurt Delsack, Esq., announced today that his firm, the Law Offices of Delsack & Assoc., P.C., will donate 5% of the legal fees it earns to benefit cancer research and cancer treatment foundations. The donations will be made to cancer organizations in the name of clients the firm has successfully represented. Delsack calls it “the 5% solution.”
Mr. Delsack states: “In these hard economic times major cancer research facilities, as well as smaller treatment centers, are hurting for charitable donations. These organizations must be supported for the future benefit of all of us.” He said that organizations so diverse as museums, performance arts, and those who help feed and provide for the homeless have also been hit hard by the decline in contributions, and that this is a good way to increase donations without “having it hurt too much.”
Delsack has seen the devastating effects of cancer on his own family, not only for those who have lost the cancer battle but also for those who are cancer survivors and those who love them. “It’s a tough disease,” he said, “and spares no one regardless of age, race, sex, or how much money you have.”
For more than twenty years Delsack’s firm has represented thousands of consumers from all over the state of California and recovered millions of dollars from manufacturers of defective products, including automobile and truck manufacturers of “lemons.” Delsack says he likes representing “the little guy against the big firms” whom he sees as sometimes selling defective products and then refusing to buy back their “lemons” unless they are forced to do so by law firms such as his.
With this new “5% solution” donation policy, Delsack hopes to get other law firms and other professionals like accountants, architects, engineers, etc., and other businesses to contribute a small percentage of their fees to organizations that help others. “And not just for medical research but also to whatever organization or institution where money is badly needed.” He believes millions of more dollars will be funneled to these organizations by this simple, new approach to giving.
