General Motors has decided that a manufacturing defect which relates to vehicle safety exists in certain 2016 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles and they will be asking approximately 30,000 owners to return to their dealerships for repairs. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, wiper motor covers manufactured using a broken tool, may allow internal terminals to move and potentially contact each other, creating an electrical short. A safety defect on certain 2014 Cadillac CTS sedans will have owners retuning their vehicles to a manufacturer approved repair facility to have them fixed. The problem was first noticed at the beginning of this year, after GM received warranty claims from customers who said they experienced reduced driver visibility due to an inoperative windshield wiper system. General Motors (GM) is warning drivers of certain 2012 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles manufactured between May 2011- February 2012, that their vehicles may not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for the windshield wiping and washing systems. According to GM, the washer hose could separate from the washer fluid reservoir making it impossible for the driver to clean the windshield while driving. A buildup of dirt could eventually obstruct the drivers vision increasing the chance of an accident. GM will be sending out notices to Sonic owners asking them to take their vehicles in to their Chevrolet dealership to have the hose secured to prevent separation. Ford has announced that they will be recalling certain 2012 Focus vehicles because the passenger side motor could fail. According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a seal in the wiring harness connector on the passenger side could be missing. Water and contaminant could accumulate in the connector resulting in an intermittent or inoperative passenger side wiper. Ford will inspect, clean, and properly seal the connector, or replace the wiper motor as necessary. Ford will be notifying owners starting May 21. Mazda has announced a recall that will affect over 100,000 2008-2009 Mazda 3 and Mazda Speed 3 vehicles built between January 2008 to November 2008. During assembly, the ground terminal from the windshield wiper motor may have been damaged causing an increased electrical resistance. If the resistance becomes too high or the wire should become break completely, the windshield wipers will stop working. The loss of the wiper function in poor weather could reduce the drivers visibility, increasing the risk of an accident. Dealers will rectify the problem by installing an additional ground harness to the wiper motor.
