The owners of certain 2015 BMW M5 sedans and M6 coupes will be contacted by the manufacturer regarding a problem with the powertrain system. The affected vehicles have a driveshaft that may have been inadequately welded and could fracture. If the driveshaft breaks, drive torque will no longer be transmitted to the rear wheels, resulting in a loss of propulsion.

Dealers will inspect the driveshaft and replace it as necessary. Owners wanting more information about the defect are asked to contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 16V-540.
