Owners of certain GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac trucks and SUV’s will be contacted by GM concerning a defect that could result in unexpected loss of engine, steering, and brake power. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the ignition lock actuator outer diameter may exceed specifications. If the vehicles interior ambient temperature is sufficiently high, the key may bind making it difficult to turn and potentially becoming stuck in the “start” position. Cooling interior temperatures or a significant jarring event may result in the ignition lock cylinder moving out of the “Start” position and into the “Accessory” position, shutting off the engine.

Dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owners wanting more information about the ignition problem are asked to contact GM customer service at 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM’s number for this recall is 14696 for original equipment, and 14912 for the service replacement parts. The NHTSA campaign number is 14V-827.
