General Motors continues to expand their recall for ignition switches that could unexpectedly shut of when the ignition key is bumped or when driving on rough road conditions. The problem has resulted in unexpected loss of engine power and can affect power steering, power braking, and airbag deployment. Until the problem can be fixed, drives are asked to remove all items from their key ring leaving only the vehicle key.

The automobiles that have been added to the recall list include:

  • 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse
  • 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne
  • 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville
  • 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS
  • 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala
  • 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Dealers will correct the problem by installing two 13mm key rings and a key insert into the vehicle’s ignition keys. Owners wanting more information about the problem may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM’s number for this recall is 14299 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-355.
