General Motors will be conducting a safety campaign for certain 2014 Buick Lacrosse and 2014 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles equipped with 17 inch front brake assemblies. According to reports, these vehicles may have been manufactured with front brake rotors that are too thin. Initial brake performance will will not be affected by the problem, however, higher heat generated in the rear pads will significantly shorten the brake pad life. As components wear, the outer brake pad could become disengaged from the caliper bucket and the system will lose hydraulic integrity. This will result in reduced brake system performance and an illuminated brake warning light. If the driver continues to drive, a complete loss of braking could occur.

GM will notify owners to take their vehicles to a manufacturer approved repair facility to have their brakes inspected and the correct rotors with new brake pads installed as necessary. GM’s recall number is 14128 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-240. For more information about the problem, owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick) or 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet).
