Owners of certain 2007-2008 Saturn Aura cars equipped with four speed automatic transmissions, will be contacted by General Motors about a problem that could lead to fractured transmission cables. The problem has already resulted in 28 crashes and four injuries in the past seven years.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, if a fracture occurs, the driver may not be able to shift their transmission into a different gear, remove the key from the ignition, or put their vehicle in park. The problem could result in the vehicle rolling away unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Owners receiving a recall notice will be asked to return their vehicles to a manufacturer approved repair facility to have the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket replaced free of charge. For more information about the problem , owners can contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM’s recall number is 14152 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-224.
