Maserati North America has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in sixty three 2014 Maserati Quattroporte GTS V8 vehicles. The automobile manufacturer has notified the NHTSA about the defect and will be asking owners to take their vehicles in to the nearest manufacturer approved repair facility to have electrical repairs done to the alternator starter wiring harness. The NHTSA Campaign Number is 13V-589.

According to the recall report, certain 2014 Quattroporte GTS vehicles were manufactured with an alternator starter motor wiring harness with a defective crimp at the Y connection. The defective crimp could result in the positive battery cable shorting to ground, overheating, and possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire. Drivers could experience loss of electrical power while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.

To remedy the defect, Maserati will be asking owners of the affected vehicles to make an appointment to have the alternator-starter motor wiring harness replaced in their vehicles. For more information about the problem, contact Maserati at 1-201-816-2600.
