Porsche is recalling certain 2012-2013 911 Carrera and 2012-2013 911 Carrera 4 vehicles manufactured between March 7, 2012 through to November 12, 2012. The vehicles affected are equipped with a standard (not sport) exhaust systems.

According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Porsche first observed fractures along the circular weld seam on the rear muffler of an internal test vehicle manufactured during the affected vehicles. As a result, the exhaust tailpipe of the muffler on higher mileage cars could fracture and separate from the rear muffler completely, creating a hazard for other drivers on the road.

Once Porsche provides a notification schedule, owners will be notified and dealers will replace both rear mufflers free of charge. Approximately 2,300 vehicles are affected by this recall. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243.
